In high winds (or in covered outdoor spaces that tend to create a “wind tunnel” effect), the Bentham Outdoor Single Pendant Light can swing or sway. The length of the chain will also increase its chance of swaying. For example: At its full 36 in. length, the lantern is more prone to swaying vs. cutting the chain to half-length. However, the light’s 3.85 lb. weight should keep it steady in moderate winds.
If swaying is a concern, consider attaching three or four smaller chains (by other) to the lantern’s top loop to prevent it from swinging or twisting in the wind. These support chains should ideally suspend from points distant from the center chain, and consider giving them some slack (or droop) for a decorative effect (for inspiration, see the United State’s White House lantern here).
Unfortunately, we can not provide any further instructions on how to install such a counter-balance system.
