As a general guideline, outdoor wall lights beside a door are typically mounted so the center of the fixture is about 66 in above the threshold, or at roughly one-third of the door's height. Fixtures beside a garage door are usually mounted a little higher, near the top of the door opening. For a balanced look, install one fixture on each side.
